Who are we?
Cohere is the leading security-first enterprise AI company. We build cutting-edge foundation AI models and end-to-end products that are designed to solve real-world business problems.
We’re training and deploying frontier models for enterprises who are building AI systems. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI and we are looking for folks that want to be part of that.
We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are all passionate about their craft.
We are a global technology company co-headquartered in Toronto and San Francisco, with key offices in London, New York City, Montreal, Seoul, Germany and Paris. Join us!
WHY THIS ROLE?
We’re hiring a Senior People Business Partner in London 🇬🇧 to help scale Cohere through a major phase of growth.
This is a strategic People leadership role partnering closely with our Engineering organisation and senior technical leaders inside one of the world’s leading AI companies.
At Cohere, Senior PBPs operate as trusted advisors to leadership teams and influential partners to the broader People organisation. You’ll support leaders across organisational design, leadership effectiveness, talent strategy, succession planning, and organisational health in a fast-scaling, globally distributed environment.
We’re still evolving parts of our People infrastructure and operating model, so this is a strong fit for someone energised by ambiguity, building, and improving ways of working in real time.
YOU’LL THRIVE HERE IF YOU:
- Operate with ownership — strong judgment, accountability, and low ego
- Balance standards + empathy — supportive while maintaining high expectations
- Enjoy ambiguity — energised by fast-moving, evolving environments
- Love solving problems — especially complex organisational and leadership challenges
- Move fluidly — between strategy and hands-on execution
- Influence effectively — through strong communication and credibility
- Enjoy developing others — including mentoring and coaching PBPs
AREAS YOU’LL TYPICALLY SUPPORT:
- Org design — scaling teams and organisational structures
- Leadership coaching — supporting senior technical leaders
- Talent strategy — performance, retention, and succession planning
- Team effectiveness — organisational health and leadership capability
- Employee experience — onboarding, retention, and engagement
- People team scale — helping evolve the broader People function
WE’RE LIKELY TO BE A STRONG FIT IF YOU:
- Operate at senior scope — Director-equivalent BP experience, Head of People experience at a smaller company, or similar IC7+ scope
- Know technical environments — experience partnering with Engineering, Product, Research, or similar organisations
- Understand hyper growth — experience operating in startup, scale-up, or rapidly scaling environments
- Have global exposure — supported distributed organisations across multiple countries or regions
- Communicate exceptionally well — especially in written, asynchronous environments
- Build trust effectively — influence through credibility, judgment, and strong relationships over time
Note: This role is intended for candidates open to a London hybrid working arrangement due to the leadership teams supported by the role. We may post future roles at this level that are remote.
If this role feels exciting but slightly ahead of your current scope or experience level, we’d also encourage you to explore our People Business Partner opening. We’re hiring across multiple levels of the People team and would love to stay connected with exceptional talent.
If some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply!
We value and celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment for all. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12a6IrLdF3kI2nonKSr4tiFuz18rLQbaeYV-JM9L4o9Q/edit, and we will work together to meet your needs.
