Federal Agents – Demo & Reference Repository
Overview
The Federal Agents repository provides practical demonstrations, reference architectures, and implementation guidance for building AI-powered agent solutions using Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, and integrated Microsoft cloud services.
These scenarios are designed for U.S. Government environments (GCC, GCC High, DoD) and focus on mission-oriented use cases that demonstrate how agents can augment workflows, automate processes, and enable intelligent decision support.
Purpose
This repository serves as a centralized hub for:
- Deployable agent-based proof-of-concept (POC) solutions
- Reference architectures and design patterns
- Integration approaches across Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and Azure services
- Guidance for secure and compliant agent deployments
The goal is to provide practical, reusable starting points that accelerate evaluation and adoption of agent-based solutions in federal environments.
Scope and Approach
The initial set of scenarios leverages Copilot Studio as the primary agent interface, with integrations across:
- Microsoft 365 Copilot
- Power Automate and Dataverse
- Azure services (AI services, APIs, Foundry)
- External and web-based systems
This repository is not limited to a single implementation model. Over time, it may expand to include:
- Declarative agent scenarios within Microsoft 365 Copilot
- Additional orchestration patterns
- Broader integration approaches across the Microsoft ecosystem
These solutions are proof-of-concept implementations intended for evaluation and learning. They are not production-ready and should be validated against your organization’s security, compliance, and operational requirements before deployment.
Relationship to Federal Business Applications
This repository complements the Federal Business Applications Demo Repository: https://github.com/microsoft/Federal-Business-Applications
- Federal Business Applications focuses on application-centric solutions using Power Platform and Dynamics 365
- Federal Agents extends these concepts into AI-driven agent experiences such as copilots, orchestration, and intelligent automation
Where foundational patterns already exist, this repository will reference those assets rather than duplicate them.
What You’ll Find
Demos
Mission-focused agent scenarios demonstrating:
- Workflow automation using agent orchestration
- Integration across Microsoft 365, APIs, and business systems
- Knowledge retrieval and contextual assistance
- Decision support and task execution
Each demo is designed to be:
- Deployable as a starting point
- Adaptable to different mission scenarios
- Documented with architecture and implementation guidance
Reference Architectures
Design patterns and system-level guidance, including:
- Agent interaction patterns (user → copilot → tools → data)
- Identity and access integration (Microsoft Entra ID)
- Data boundaries and governance considerations
- Cross-service orchestration patterns
Guidance
Key considerations for implementing agents in government environments:
- Security and compliance fundamentals
- Data handling, protection, and auditability
- Deployment considerations across GCC, GCC High, and DoD
- Responsible AI considerations
