By Lucy Park , Co-founder & CPO, Upstage When we started building Upstage Studio , the goal was to extract and interpret data from any document format with high accuracy. We got good at it. Then customers kept telling us the same thing: reading the document wasn't the expensive part. The expensive part was everything after. Revenue leaked in places no one could see. Teams lost hours to manual checking and re-keying. People spent more time assembling information for a decision than making it. Companies have paid for OCR, extraction, and task automation for years, and all three problems are still there. Those conversations taught us that intake is the starting point, not the solution. The value sits between documents: the contract that sets the rate, the delivery record that shows what happened, the invoice that says what was billed. When those live apart, money leaks in between. The next generation of Studio is built to close those gaps. A $200M lender whose tools all worked, but separately A US financing provider with more than $200 million deployed was running document work across three disconnected systems for PDF extraction, data labeling, OCR, and workflow automation. That kind of sprawl is common: a 2026 Cloud Security Alliance survey found 32% of organizations running 11 or more tools against their unstructured data. Each tool did its job. None of them connected the borrower, the entity, and the documents behind them. After moving to Studio, the provider consolidated that work into one layer, reached 95%+ accuracy in multi-layer entity identification and matching, and cut document-to-data time by 80%. Logistics showed us the same pattern. Extracting data from a freight invoice is useful. Answering the real questions means connecting that invoice to the contract, the shipment, the delivery status, and the agreed rates. Did the forwarder bill what we agreed to? Did we charge the customer for warehouse waiting time, extra handling, and extended storage? Which routes and forwarders actually make money? You can't answer any of those from one document. What's new in Studio Studio still reads documents. What's new is what it builds while reading them. Every workflow builds a context graph As Studio reads documents, it recognizes the entities that matter to your business: customers, contracts, shipments, and policies. It also recognizes how they relate to each other. Studio builds those entities and relationships into a context graph, a map of how your business actually works, drawn from the documents you already have. Start with one workflow, and the graph grows with every document that moves through it.
Entities and relationship types supported in Upstage Studio. Entities are identified during extraction. Relationships are inferred from the extracted results. Stop answering questions one file at a time Today, checking whether a forwarder billed correctly means opening the contract, then the invoice, then the delivery record, then comparing them yourself. Studio already knows those three documents belong together, so you can just ask: Show me every document tied to this shipment. Which forwarder invoices don't match contracted rates? What's our total exposure to this borrower, including affiliated entities? Each answer draws on every document that touches it.
No ERP replacement required You don't need to replace your ERP, TMS, WMS, or RPA tools. Studio works alongside them, automates the handoffs between them, and writes structured data back into them.
Studio runs where your data lives: in our cloud, in your private cloud, or fully on-premises. It is SOC 2 Type 1 and ISO 27001/27701 certified, HIPAA compliant, and your documents are never used to train models. Every other approach trades speed for connection Businesses have tried to close these gaps before, and each approach only gets part of the way.

Where the money comes back Customers taught us not to solve everything at once. Start with one workflow where money is already leaking. The value shows up in three ways. 1. Stopping revenue leaks When documents are connected to contracts, orders, shipments, and policies, you can see what you're overpaying, under-collecting, or missing entirely. The work stops being about extracting data and becomes about exposing the gaps that eat margin. 2. Cutting manual work Studio automates the reading, checking, routing, and re-entry trapped inside documents. The financing provider cut document-to-data time by 80%. A global semiconductor company processing 24,000 vendor invoices a year cut handling time from 8 minutes to about 1.5 minutes per invoice, reclaiming roughly 215 hours a month. 3. Finding business you couldn't see before Hanwha Life structured 10 years of claims records, found where real treatment costs were heading, and turned that into personalized coverage that brought in new customers and opened upsell paths with existing policyholders. That analysis was sitting in their archives the whole time, locked in formats nobody could query. None of this works if the data underneath is wrong. Amwins reached 100% accuracy across 30 document types with a three-month payback. Hanwha Life reached 96%+ accuracy across 5 million claims documents spanning 10 years of archives. Samsung Fire & Marine hit 96% precision in claims extraction at 45,000 documents an hour. Start with one workflow Pick one workflow where you suspect money is leaking.
